As I begin to actually dig into the text of Scripture, in the study of
an entire book, my first order of business is to read through the entire
book and make a chapter title for each chapter. To do this I try to
pick out what the key theme or subject of the chapter is (or the major
one if there are many), sum it up in about three words -- the shorter
the better, no more than five usually, exact biblical words or phrases
preferred -- and then write the summary down as a reminder of what is
going on in each of the chapters. Today I read through the first chapter of Romans.
